Universal Jurisdiction
We bring you the latest on universal jurisdiction law and how it is being used to challenge the Chinese authorities on their crimes against the Tibetan people. There is currently a case in the Spanish courts that accuses five Chinese leaders, including recent President of China Hu Jintao, of committing crimes against humanity, torture and genocide against the Tibetan people. This decade-long case has recently been making headway, and headlines, as China attempts to pressure the Spanish government into stopping the case proceedings by changing its own laws. Tibet Justice Center very much supports the work of the team behind the case – lawyer Jose Esteve Molto, and Director Alan Cantos of Spanish Tibet support group Comité de Apoyo al Tíbet (CAT).
